Since 1998 Sportingbet has grown to be one of the world’s largest online bookmakers. The company has more than 3 million players spread out over the world. In the earlier days the company focused primarily on the British market, but in the later years they’ve started to aim wider involving more sports and leagues around the world trying to appeal to all players around the globe.
The coverage of different sports and leagues on Sportingbet is way above your average online bookmaker. When it comes to football they are way up there, also having great coverage of the secondary leagues around the world. Handball and ice hockey are two areas where they do very well within Europe, and if you are betting on tennis or golf they basically cover all professional tournaments there are.
If you enjoy betting on the more popular leagues – whether it’s football, handball, ice hockey or something else – it is not unusual to see at least 30 further bets apart from the classic 1X2 bet. These bets include handicap play, over/under, half time result and much more. If you’re betting on the secondary leagues bets besides the 1X2 are more uncommon.
Sportingbet have a really nice live betting section. Of course they offer lots of football live odds, but they also do a really good job when it comes to handball, snooker, rugby, baseball, basketball and other events. Keep in mind that football is the live betting giant and you will often see around 10-20 different kind of bets available per game. Do however remember that live betting odds tend to be a bit under market value.
Sportingbet offer a decent pay-out ratio overall, but they are not among the best. Still, an average pay-out ratio of 92.2% is tolerable. The good thing about Sportingbet is that the pay-out ratio they offer is well-proportionally spread out over all the leagues – on most other online bookmakers there are big differences between the leagues.
The support team on Sportingbet is superb. They have an integrated live chat which works very well. The agents are friendly and helpful. They can also be contacted via a toll-free phone or by e-mail. The reaction time is quick and the information provided is spot on. A huge thumbs up in this category!
Sportingbet offer a £100 free bet first deposit bonus. There are a lot of requirements. The bonus is split up into 4 free bets. On your first single bet of at least £10 they match it with a free bet of £10. The last 3 free bets are split up in £30, and will be credited to your account when you play respectively a double bet, a treble bet and a 4-fold bet all of at least £10 each. After having placed these bets you will have been credited a total of £100. Notice: free bets cannot be used to bet on other free bets (it has to be with money deposited or money won since the first deposit). Also note that bets must be placed on markets with odds of 1.5 or great on the single qualifying bet, and odds of 1.3 or greater per selection on the double, treble and 4-fold qualifying bets. A lot of rules – but all in all a decent bonus.
The website has an elegant blue-grey’ish look and it’s easy to maneuver around the main menus. On the left you can choose between the sport events you wish to bet on. Sportingbet has a betting slip on the right which allows you to see your coupon and add to it at any given time. It can be difficult to navigate between games in a certain league, having to click back and forth many times. It’s only possible to see the 1X2 odds when looking at a league, which means you e.g. have to click on a certain match to see the over/under odds and then click back to check out the odds on the next team. That is a minus. Apart from that the site works great.
Deposit / withdrawal
To deposit and withdraw you can use credit cards (VISA and Mastercard), a bank transfer or eWallets such as Neteller, Moneybookers or Click2Pay. It is also possible to deposit through eWire. All the deposit and withdrawal options are free of charge.
Our own experience
Before entering the site we had seen the Sportingbet sponsor logo on the Wolverhampton football jerseys. We are not Wolverhampton fans, nevertheless we decided to go for it and see what the site had to offer. As Sportingbet have a live chat and many other bookmakers don’t, we wanted to see if they were just saying they offered it or if it really worked. Did it work? It sure did. Amazingly great support, after 30 seconds of waiting we were talking to an agent named Federica who guided us through the different bonus possibilities and the wagering requirements. The playing experience on the website is generally very nice, apart from the usability issue we discussed earlier. The wagering requirements are a bit too difficult for the average user, and it took us some time to find out everything about them.
Playing at Sportingbet was a good experience. They might have the best online customer support in the business. The game selection of which to choose from is excellent, and the odds are fine. The bonus they offer is too complicated and has too many special wagering requirements. All this being said – this is a major player in the business, and if you are searching for a bookmaker with a great variety of sports and games and an excellent support, this will definitely be a satisfying site for your needs.
